The Formula for Getting Rich Used by Successful Entrepreneurs Worldwide

This is the story of a security guard named Afrizal. Afrizal had been working as a security guard for 10 years when, in 2007, he was suddenly laid off with only a severance pay of around 3 million rupiahs.
Unhappy with the amount he received, he protested and appealed here and there. However, as is often the case for the less fortunate, his voice was not heard—let alone taken to court.
That day, he felt like it was the end of the world. He had no other skills or expertise because he had spent his entire career as a security guard, never imagining he would be laid off. The monthly salary he had always depended on suddenly disappeared.
For the next few months, he decided to survive as a scavenger. However, deep inside, he was determined that this would not be his fate forever—he had to change, he had to move on.
During his difficult times, he constantly thought and searched for ways to provide for his family and himself. One day, he sought guidance from a Chinese businessman to learn the path to wealth. Because of his frequent inquiries, the businessman finally shared a formula that Afrizal has held onto ever since.
The businessman said, There are only three formulas for becoming rich:
- Being born into a wealthy family
- Luck
- Stinginess (Frugality)
Hearing this, Afrizal reflected deeply on the words. He knew he was not born into a wealthy family, and he couldn’t rely on luck. So, he decided to become frugal.
His approach to frugality was simple: no matter what, he would save half of his earnings from scavenging. He disciplined himself to follow this principle strictly.
A year passed, and he managed to save 7 million rupiahs. However, he was unsure how to use the money. His only skills were working as a security guard and scavenging. He had promised himself he would only be a scavenger for one year, so continuing was not an option.
Then, luck finally came his way. Out of nowhere, he found someone selling a food stall at Kosambi Market for 5 million rupiahs. Without hesitation, he bought it. But then, another problem arose—he had no idea what to sell with only 2 million rupiahs left and a food cart in his hands.
His 10 years of experience as a security guard and a year of surviving on basic meals did not help him much in deciding what to sell. Then, he recalled a moment when, as a scavenger, someone had given a meal box to his child. His child’s words stuck with him:
“Dad, if you buy food, get this kind. It’s really delicious!”
Back then, Afrizal had also tasted it and agreed—it was indeed delicious. This made him realize one thing: no matter the dish, a meal would always taste great if the rice was good.
So, he decided to focus entirely on making delicious rice, regardless of what side dishes he served. With strong determination, he experimented with different methods to cook the best-tasting rice and started selling boxed rice meals.
Years passed, and his business grew. When I heard this story, he had already performed Umrah twice and bought a house in Jatinangor.
At one point, he thought being laid off as a security guard was the end of the world. But now, he sees it as the greatest blessing of his life. He is grateful for losing his job because it led him to own a small restaurant in Kosambi Market.
This is a true story retold by Mr. Eutik, and I documented it as a listener.
