Pornography That Ruins Lives

Pornography is not a taboo subject, nor is it unfamiliar. With just an internet connection—whether through mobile data, Wi-Fi, or any other network—anyone, whether married or single, old or young, male or female, even children, can access websites that provide pornographic content in the form of text or videos.
Pornographic content is a source of destruction. Its destructive power surpasses even that of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because the damage occurs from within and gradually ruins the lives of those who consume it
I am not exaggerating this narrative. If we look at the numbers, the casualties from the tragic events in Hiroshima and Nagasaki ranged between 129,000 and 226,000, which is only half of the population of each city.
Although the number of deaths and injuries was significant, believe me, the number of victims addicted to pornography is much higher.
Here are some statistics presented in an article :
- 28,258 people watch porn videos every second.
- 372 people search for adult content every second.
- 37 pornographic videos are produced daily in the United States.
- 116,000 pornography-related questions are asked by children every day.
Focusing on these four points, the numbers are staggering—far exceeding Indonesia’s population of 250 million. Why is pornography so dangerous?
Here are some of the destructive effects caused by pornography.
The brain has a part called the prefrontal cortex (PFC), responsible for planning, decision-making, and other important executive functions.
Watching pornography triggers the release of a hormone called dopamine, which provides a sense of satisfaction and creates dependency. Over time, excessive dopamine floods the PFC, causing it to shrink.

From a health perspective, this is extremely damaging. A shrinking PFC leads to a lack of concentration, laziness, and increased stress.
Unlike drug, alcohol, or cigarette addiction, pornography addiction leads individuals to seek new, more extreme content to satisfy their urges.
This could escalate to animated pornography, bestiality, or even same-sex pornography, which may contribute to the development of LGBT tendencies.
Most people watch pornography at night or before sleeping. While it may provide a temporary pleasure, it leaves them feeling anxious, moody, and lazy the next morning.
This negative emotional state can carry over into daily routines, damaging social interactions and relationships with others.
Additionally, the shrinking PFC causes a decline in daily activities due to a lack of focus and concentration. It also leads to feelings of guilt, as it contradicts religious and moral values.
Love is an emotion that involves attachment, physical contact, and deep trust within a committed relationship (such as marriage). While sex is an essential part of love, it is vastly different from pornography.
Sex within a committed relationship fosters happiness and trust, whereas pornography is purely about seeking pleasure and satisfying lust.
Over time, a person addicted to pornography may prefer watching adult content over interacting with their partner.
If left unchecked, men may begin to objectify women, viewing them only as tools for pleasure rather than as individuals to be cherished and loved.
Likewise, women addicted to pornography may fantasize about the affectionate and passionate interactions they see in videos, which are often staged and unrealistic.
If their real-life relationship lacks these elements, they may seek fulfillment elsewhere, potentially leading to infidelity.
Pornography addiction affects both men and women, deteriorating relationships, distorting perceptions of love, and ultimately leading to dissatisfaction and broken bonds. If left uncontrolled, it can destroy not only individual lives but also families and communities.
If you are already trapped in pornography addiction, do not lose hope. Allah forgives those who sincerely repent.
Now that we have discussed the dangers of pornography, we will explore ways to overcome this addiction in the next article. Stay tuned and have fun!
